More study set on methadone clinic's move

REDWOOD CITY -- An abrupt shift in strategy by a resident group fighting plans to bring a methadone clinic to their neighborhood appears to have had the desired effect, at least temporarily. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to spend three more weeks studying the proposal to move the clinic to North Fair Oaks. Residents of surrounding neighborhoods complained about the proposal, launching a vocal campaign and garnering unanimous support from county planning commissioners. County supervisors are hearing a planning commission appeal and will make a final decision May 16.
The clinic could also study whether to move to other possible sites in the county, or be folded into existing county health services.
